Marvel fans have something to look forward to with the upcoming release of “Captain America: New World Order,” the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise. Anthony Mackie will star as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, marking his first time taking up the mantle on the big screen. Joining him are two of his “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” castmates: Danny Ramirez as Joaquín Torres and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley. Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role from “The Incredible Hulk” as Samuel Sterns, and Shira Haas will play Ruth Bat-Seraph, aka Sabra, a new hero.
Legendary actor Harrison Ford will play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a role originally played by William Hurt who passed away in March 2022. Liv Tyler will also return to reprise her role as scientist Betty Ross, daughter of General Ross. Ford’s Ross is also expected to appear in 2024’s “Thunderbolts” movie.
Julius Onah is directing the new Captain America installment, which is being written by “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” showrunner Malcolm Spellman and the show’s staff writer Dalan Musson. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
Although there were rumors that Chris Evans was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America in 2021, it was noted that any future appearance wouldn’t be for another Captain America movie. The Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” set the stage for this next part of Sam’s story, which will see Mackie’s Sam pick up the famed shield left behind by Evans’s Steve Rogers.
