Sean Combs has been accused by Danyel Smith of threatening to harm her. The former editor-in-chief of Vibe Magazine shared her experience in a recent essay.
Smith penned a personal piece for the New York Times concerning a dispute she had with P Diddy in the late 1990s.
The issue arose during a photoshoot concerning the cover of the December 1997/January 1998 edition of the magazine.
Smith Recounts the Incident
“Combs insisted on previewing the Vibe covers before publication, which was against our policy,” Smith revealed.
“Upon refusal, rumors circulated that he intended to visit our office forcefully to intervene in the cover selection process,” she added.
Allegedly, the rapper later phoned the journalist and made a disturbing threat, stating, “I will find you ‘dead in the trunk of a car.'”
“In response, I demanded he retract his threat,” Smith said without hesitation.
Smith claimed that Combs replied callously, asking, “‘Retract what?'”, followed by a disrespectful comment, “‘[Expletive] you,'” with an unsettling chuckle.
“I know your exact location right now. You’re on Lexington,” Combs reportedly added.
After the journalist sought legal counsel due to the threat, Combs eventually sent an apology via fax.
Combs has previously received criticism for a leaked video showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Additionally, he is currently facing legal action regarding alleged sex trafficking accusations from Adria English.
