Fans of Beyoncé are voicing their displeasure after the 2024 CMA Awards overlooked her country album, Cowboy Carter, in the nominations.
Despite its success and popularity, Beyoncé received no nominations at all, prompting allegations of racism directed towards the award event.
Beyoncé‘s supporters took to social platforms to express their anger regarding her omission from the nominations.
One frustrated Twitter user stated, “It’s unbelievable that Bey and Cowboy Carter were totally disregarded while Post Malone received four nominations… This is straight-up racism!”
Another fan criticized, “Great job CMAs, continuing to prove you’re a bunch of racists. Beyoncé made history with Cowboy Carter and has outdone every other country artist in recent years.”
Cowboy Carter’s notable achievements overlooked
Cowboy Carter, which is Beyoncé‘s eighth studio album, launched at the top of charts in various countries and was met with critical praise following its March release.
The album’s hit single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” also claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Notably, Beyoncé became the first black woman to top the Country Albums chart since its establishment in 1964, marking a historical milestone in this music genre.
Is there a pattern of bias at the CMA against black artists?
The lack of nominations for Beyoncé has led many to speculate that racial bias influenced the CMA’s choices.
Some fans highlighted the CMA’s pattern of neglecting black artists, recalling Beyoncé‘s controversial performance with The Chicks at the CMA in 2016.
One fan remarked on Twitter, “Anyone with a bit of common sense knew the CMAs wouldn’t acknowledge Bey. They have a clear disdain for her and are unlikely to celebrate an album born from their racially insensitive treatment of her.”
