“When I saw this glistening brown skin on television reflecting me, I said I can do this,” she told us, “It’s so important that we see ourselves, and our children see themselves reflected in this world.”
Her husband of nine years, Tim Weatherspoon, made a surprise appearance at the event to present her with the award.
