Ariana Grande is using Lizzo to spread her message of body positivity. On Thursday, she posted a video of Lizzo in a bikini to her Instagram Story and wrote, “THIS BODY IS ART.” She also tagged Lizzo and gushed, “ilysm [I love you so much].”
In the powerful clip, Lizzo reminded her followers that artists are not here to fit into beauty standards, but to make art. She went on to say that if comments cost money, people would realize how much time they are wasting on the wrong thing.
Grande had recently addressed fans’ concerns about her “worryingly thin” frame. In a lengthy TikTok, she explained that the body people were comparing her current body to was the unhealthiest version of herself. She was on antidepressants and drinking on them, and eating poorly. She reminded people that they never know what someone is going through, and even if they are coming from a loving place, that person might be working on it with a support system.
By invoking Lizzo’s body-positive message, Grande is sending a powerful reminder that beauty standards should not be enforced on artists.
