WNBA star Brittney Griner, who was wrongfully detained in Russia from February 2022 until her release in a prisoner swap in December 2022, will be attending this year’s Met Gala. Griner recently appeared in New York City at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network’s Women’s Empowerment Luncheon at the Sheraton in New York where she pledged to help others detained overseas. It is unknown which fashion designer the Phoenix Mercury star will accompany to fashion’s biggest night.
The star-studded event takes place this year on May 1 with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Other stars expected to climb the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art include Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Rihanna, Salma Hayek, Pete Davidson, Olivia Rodrigo and Serena Williams. Anna Wintour chose Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel to join her as co-hosts for the evening, which will celebrate Lagerfeld’s work for Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain and his eponymous brands.
This year’s event will honor the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died at the age of 85 in 2019. It is sure to be an unforgettable night of fashion and celebration.
