Chet Hanks worked up a sweat while putting his vocal cords to work. The son of Academy Award winner Tom Hanks told his Instagram followers Wednesday afternoon that he “just went on a hike,” during which he “talked out loud to [himself] for 2.5 hours straight.” He said it was the “realest conversation” he’s ever had. He explained he “hadn’t kicked it” with himself “in a while,” insisting that “self talk is everything.” Chet reminded his fans that “the only thing harder than healing is not healing.” Speaking directly to those who may be struggling, the 32-year-old added, “I know it’s been a long road for you. And the road is still long ahead. But all that matters is you’re still on it. Don’t give up.”
The rapper and actor celebrated one year of sobriety in September 2022 after years of substance abuse. In 2014, the “self-confessed black sheep” of the Hanks family went to rehab for cocaine addiction. At the time, the then-24-year-old revealed that he decided to go public with his situation because a tabloid was about to run an article about his stay in treatment. Despite how the news came out, the actor felt “blessed with the programs of AA and NA,” which he credited with allowing him “to rise above this disease.” He shared that he was “learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human,” and thanked his famous family — including mom Rita Wilson and half-brother Colin Hanks — for their support.
Chet seems to be on a better path now and currently runs a “self-mastery program” called HanxFit Club.
