Justin Theroux was just a little bit “in love” with his “White House Plumbers” character, G. Gordon Liddy. Liddy and his partner, E. Howard Hunt (played by Woody Harrelson) organized and directed the botched burglaries of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate complex in 1972. Theroux told Page Six that he found what he considers to be the right things about Liddy and ended up falling in love with him.
Theroux said that even though the show is darkly funny, “it’s the ultimate Greek tragedy”. He wishes he could have asked Liddy and Hunt if they had any remorse or responsibility for their actions. The “White House Plumbers” is set to premiere on HBO on May 1.
At the premiere were Harrelson, Lena Headey, Judy Greer, Ike Barinholtz, Domhnall Gleeson and Kathleen Turner. Theroux believes that even though the guys who loved Nixon probably more than anyone, they ended up being the cause for his resignation.
