“I was scared for my life.”
A Taylor Swift fan compared the pop star’s hours-delayed, rainy concert in Nashville to Travis Scott’s fatal Astroworld Festival. Andrea, a self-proclaimed “biggest fan” of Swift, posted a video on TikTok Tuesday in which she detailed her experience at the show. She prefaced the clip by saying, “I love Taylor Swift with all my heart. I’m one of her biggest fans. But I felt uncomfortable, unsafe and terrified at some points.”
Andrea had VIP tickets and was forced to shelter in place for more than three hours due to severe weather. She said she had to go “underneath the stadium seats where the concessions are.” She described the situation as being “shoulder to shoulder with nowhere to go,” and said that she was “5 feet tall, so everyone was towering over me.”
The comparison to the Astroworld Festival tragedy was made due to the chaos that ensued when fans were finally let into the stadium. 10 people died from compression asphyxia after chaos and a “crowd crush” broke out at Scott’s annual music festival in Houston in November 2021. Andrea recalled that security was being “aggressive,” and paramedics were struggling to get through the crowd before Swift took the stage around 10:30 p.m. She said that people were “dropping left and right and fainting,” and that she was “literally in tears and couldn’t enjoy the show.”
Other fans slammed Andrea for likening the event to Astroworld, while some were more empathetic. One fellow concertgoer commented, “I know people are calling her dramatic, but I was there on Sunday and it did get really bad at some points when they finally let us in. I was scared for my life.”
