Politics can make for strange bedfellows, and Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis may be the latest example. Despite polls showing Trump leading DeSantis in a potential 2024 GOP race, some Trumpworld insiders are urging the former president to make DeSantis his running mate. A Trumpworld source has revealed that Trump is “listening” to the suggestion, but has not yet agreed.
Supporters of the idea believe that making DeSantis VP would stop him from opposing Trump and offer a “youthful conservative vigor” to the ticket. Additionally, it would bring in big money to the campaign. However, no deal has been made yet.
DeSantis is reportedly interested in raising money and testing the waters, but his ultimate goal is to run in 2028 with or without Trump. Some donors are pushing for a partnership between the two, but a new poll on Tuesday showed that 58% of potential Republican primary voters said they’d support Trump, while only 21% said they’d pick DeSantis.
Trump himself has expressed disappointment in DeSantis, saying he should be loyal to those who got him into office. Despite this, friends of Trump say he is “smiling and doing fist-pumps” on the golf course, believing he has the nomination locked in with Republicans. DeSantis has yet to announce a primary campaign for 2024.
