During quarantine, Chip Gaines transformed his appearance significantly. Unlike many who relaxed their fitness routines and cosmetic procedures, Chip, alongside his wife Joanna, decided to let his hair grow out instead of maintaining his usual haircuts. While he has previously experimented with longer hairstyles, he took it to another level by allowing his hair to grow beyond shoulder length. Chip mentioned, “I’ve never had long hair, so I wanted to check it off my bucket list,” during an interview in July 2021.
Although Chip’s family supported his new look, not all fans were impressed. In August 2021, Chip shared a post on Instagram revealing some negative comments about his hair. He used this opportunity to explain the real reason behind his transformation. “WOW … turns out some of y’all really don’t like my hair!” he said, encouraging followers to contribute to a charitable cause: “I’m going to cut my hair and asking you to chip in for the kids at @stjude,” highlighting his intention to donate the hair he cut.
Chip kept his promise to donate his hair to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and, as expected, he looked quite different after cutting his signature locks.
Chip Gaines appears younger without his long hair
At 47 years old, Chip opted for a bald look in support of St. Jude’s, a bold decision that surprisingly made him look younger by about five years! He shared a picture of his new look after the haircut, which was donated for children battling cancer. While his longer hair suited him, he can easily rock a bald style if he chooses to. “And just like that.. it’s gone!” he wrote in his Instagram video. “All worth it if it helps more kids at [St. Jude’s].”
Joanna also publicly supported him, revealing on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she wasn’t as fond of his longer hair as she had suggested. “I never thought I’d say this, but I think I’ll miss it,” she commented. She added that Chip had challenged everyone to raise funds for the children at St. Jude’s. Their playful banter continued, with Joanna predicting she would miss his long hair while Chip pointed out that she had often criticized it before. Their light-hearted relationship is evident!
