Cissy Houston, mother of the late Whitney Houston, passed away on October 7 at the age of 91, as reported by The Associated Press. She spent her final days in hospice care at her New Jersey residence due to Alzheimer’s disease. Pat Houston, her daughter-in-law, expressed the family’s sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness.” She honored Cissy as “the matriarch of our family” and highlighted her enduring faith, family devotion, and her impactful career in music and entertainment spanning over seven decades.
In addition to being the mother of Whitney, Cissy was a talented singer in her own right, having performed as a backup vocalist for prominent artists like Elvis Presley, Chaka Khan, and Dionne Warwick. She won two Grammy Awards in the late ’90s for her albums “Face to Face” and “He Leadeth Me.” Cissy is survived by her two sons, Gary Garland and Michael Houston.
