Common’s Playful Explanation for His Non-Marital Status with Jennifer Hudson

Common Has A Sly Excuse For Not Being Married To Jennifer Hudson

During a recent appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” to promote his album “The Auditorium Vol. 1,” rapper Common faced a surprising question from Hudson about their relationship. She asked directly, “I heard you’ve been talking about marriage… What’s that about?” In his characteristic relaxed style, he responded with an intriguing remark, referencing Hudson’s mother’s advice, suggesting the decision to marry lies with her, saying, “If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.” This hints that the ball is in her court regarding their potential future.

This revelation followed an earlier appearance on “The Breakfast Club”, where Common confirmed his commitment to Hudson if he were to marry. They are no strangers to publicly showcasing their affection, having first confirmed their relationship publicly during Hudson’s show in January 2024, when Common brought her flowers as a guest.

While they played coy about their relationship status then, Common hinted at Hudson’s identity by stating that he sets high standards in dating, spotlighting her impressive achievements, from winning an Oscar to hosting her own talk show. He remarked on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” that his ideal partner had to meet a distinguished set of criteria, which definitely fits Hudson’s profile.

Both have past relationships before their romance

Should Common and Jennifer Hudson eventually tie the knot, it would follow a series of previous relationships for both. Common has experienced love and heartbreak, starting with his first serious relationship with Erykah Badu, which ended in 2002 and deeply affected him. He then dated actress Taraji P. Henson, followed by a romance with tennis star Serena Williams and a brief relationship with comedian Tiffany Haddish, showcasing his romantic journey through time.

On Hudson’s side, she ended a lengthy and tumultuous relationship with David Otunga, her partner for a decade and father of her son. Although they got engaged quickly after meeting in 2008, they never married, and their split in 2017 led to a contentious custody dispute, even involving the sale of Hudson’s engagement ring. Fortunately, both Common and Hudson have emerged from their pasts and now focus on their present together. If they are indeed heading toward marriage, we look forward to seeing more of their charming dynamic both on and off-screen.
