Since joining ABC in 2003, David Muir has established himself as a prominent figure in journalism, covering significant events like the Olympics and severe California wildfires. His appealing presence on-screen has captivated audiences for years, and his abundant hair even inspired its own joke account on X (formerly Twitter). In a 2022 segment on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” Muir, known for keeping his personal life private, created a buzz by sharing a shirtless photo with his dog Axel, according to Hello!.
The image featured Muir kneeling with his back to the camera, revealing his well-defined physique, which surprised viewers. Ripa humorously remarked, “It’s so funny, I didn’t even realize Axel was in that picture.”
In 2021, Muir also treated fans to a photo showcasing his biceps in a snug white shirt. He captioned the Instagram post, “So grateful for the break. See you tomorrow.” Fans responded with flattery, one saying, “David, you are so handsome,” while another exclaimed, “Whoa sun’s out guns out!” Although Muir appears fit, he has acknowledged that he doesn’t match the fitness levels of his ABC colleagues.
David Muir joked about needing recovery after an active getaway
Even though David Muir looks incredibly fit, he humorously remarked that he’s not as athletic as his fellow ABC hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. In a 2023 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” he jokingly described vacations with the couple as an experience that requires serious post-holiday recovery. “I think it’s good that it’s aches and pains week because honestly, it sounds fun and it is, but when you go on vacation with these two, the two fittest people on the planet, you then go into recovery for about three or four weeks,” he stated, adding that he was just beginning to feel normal again.
Despite having a great physique, Muir doesn’t seem to be a workout enthusiast. When questioned about running the New York City marathon back in 2013, he quipped on X, “20 minutes on the treadmill is a good day for me.” Still, a 2018 profile in Time revealed that he typically begins his “World News Tonight” segments with a gym session, indicating he does make an effort to hit the gym sometimes.
