Sean “Diddy” Combs is strongly contesting the allegations against him, claiming they stem from an attempt to extort him rather than actual sex trafficking.
In a recent court document, Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, argues that the single alleged victim mentioned in the indictment was trying to blackmail the music executive for $30 million.
A letter obtained exclusively by In Touch reveals that Agnifilo is seeking to have a new bond proposal considered after Diddy’s previous bond plea was turned down on September 17.
Despite putting forward $50 million in collateral, Diddy was labeled as a “serious flight risk” by prosecutors, citing his massive $1 billion fortune. The 54-year-old star has been in custody in New York since his arrest on September 16.
What is Diddy’s stance?
Agnifilo’s letter emphasizes that the indictment only mentions one victim, who had previously been in a ten-year relationship with Diddy.
“Only one person is charged in the indictment,” Agnifilo noted.
This individual, an adult woman, had her own distinct life apart from her relationship with Mr. Combs. The correspondence also states that she displayed jealousy and frustration over Diddy’s relationships with others, which led to their split.
Following their breakup, Agnifilo claims that the woman tried to blackmail Diddy by demanding $30 million to keep a memoir from being published.
Recorded exchanges between the woman’s attorney and Diddy’s representatives purportedly expose this extortion effort. When this tactic didn’t succeed, she allegedly initiated a civil lawsuit leveraging a broadened statute of limitations relevant to sexual assault cases.
Diddy chose to settle the lawsuit, not due to any wrongdoing, but to mitigate possible harm to his reputation and career.
The defense maintains that evidence, including written messages, points to a longstanding, consensual relationship affected by mutual infidelity and jealousy. As the legal battle proceeds, a judge still has to decide on Diddy’s new bond request, and the outcome of the case could significantly influence his personal and business life.
