Known to many as “Dr. Ruth,” the passing of Dr. Ruth Westheimer at the age of 96 was announced recently.
Her publicist Pierre Lehu shared the news, stating that the well-known sex therapist passed away at her Manhattan residence.
Rising to fame with her “Sexually Speaking” segment on the WYNY radio network in New York in 1980, Westheimer, who had an academic background, gained public recognition through her candid advice and discussions on intimacy that helped destigmatize the subject for many Americans. Her catchphrase “Get some!” became popular among her fans.
Her career progressed from radio to television, where she hosted “The Dr. Ruth Show” in 1983, and went on to appear on other shows and author over 45 books.
What Was Dr. Ruth Westheimer’s Wealth?
Due to her work as a sex therapist, author, and media personality, it is estimated that Dr. Ruth Westheimer had an approximate net worth of $3 million.
Her journey to success began in Germany, where she grew up as the only child of a middle-class Jewish family. Following the tragedy of her father being taken to the Dachau concentration camp by the Nazis when she was 10, her mother sent her to Switzerland.
After losing both parents in the Holocaust, she spent time in a Swiss orphanage before moving to British-controlled Mandatory Palestine (now Israel) after World War II.
Westheimer later moved to the United States in 1956, where she obtained her master’s degree in sociology from The New School and her Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.
