Elton John recently expressed deep concern about his health, fearing he may not have long to live after losing his vision due to an infection. The renowned musician shared that he worries about not being present for the weddings of his two sons.
At 77, Elton is raising his children Zachary (13) and Elijah (11) alongside his partner, David Furnish. He recently wrapped up his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to dedicate more time to his family life with David, whom he married a decade ago.
The celebrated singer revealed that while he hopes to witness his sons’ weddings, he acknowledges the grim reality that he may not be there, which left Furnish feeling distressed as they discussed Elton’s future.
Furnish shared, “That really upset me,” during an interview for the upcoming Disney+ documentary, Elton John: Never too Late. “I always thought Elton would be around forever.”
This revelation has brought a stark reality for both of them, even as Elton’s vibrant spirit makes it easier to imagine his longevity.
Elton’s concerns came to light alongside news of him losing his vision at the Dominion Theatre in London on December 1, after struggling with an infection, although he still enjoyed a performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.
The Loss of Sight
In an interview with ABC News, John shared that his inability to see the lyrics may prevent him from performing music again, as he no longer has the visual cues to keep track of the song’s flow due to the loss of sight in his right eye in France.
During a recent performance, David Furnish assisted Elton off the stage, highlighting his vital support throughout this tough time. The couple first met in 1993, entered a civil partnership in 2005, and were married in 2014.
Elton expressed his gratitude to David, telling the audience, “To my husband, who’s been my rock… It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and it sounded good tonight, OK. Thank you for coming.”
