When Monday Night Raw made its debut on Netflix, it caught many by surprise that wrestling superstar and WWE icon Hulk Hogan received a chorus of boos from the spectators.
Fans online, along with several current WWE Superstars, shared their insights on the crowd’s reaction, pointing to Hogan’s past conduct and a notorious leaked video of him.
In the realm of wrestling: A legendary figure and notorious heel passes away at 60. Nonetheless, Hogan appears unfazed by the crowd’s response, asserting that he was prepared for it.
Hulk Hogan views it as a badge of honor
In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Hogan addressed the audience that was booing him, stating it’s simply part of being in “that place of honor.” “You know, they’re still on my case,” Hogan remarked.
“I can handle being booed. The last time I was in Los Angeles, I played Hollywood Hogan with a black beard and embraced being the villain. Can The Rock or John Cena do that?”
When I face backlash, the media’s response differs significantly. There’s something about my journey that keeps people intrigued by my story.
“As for the fans who support me and are excited to be part of it, that’s wonderful. And for those who express disdain towards me, I can’t change their views except by demonstrating through my actions that I’m still relevant and committed. After undergoing approximately 25 surgeries, I needed a considerable break.
“I’ve always had a passion for the pursuit, the drive to re-engage with the industry, and that’s been my story since the beginning. Throughout my career, I’ve consistently found myself at the forefront, even back in the 80s when I was the one to beat.
“During that decade, I faced immense criticism, with many seeking to unseat me. I’d take that over being at the bottom of the card any day. It’s all part of the journey. When booed, I still generate 3.2 billion interactions, shaking the internet with a massive response from Los Angeles, and I welcome it,” stated the wrestling icon.
Hulk Hogan: The blend of his persona and character
Hogan elaborated that fan reactions stem from the mix of his Hollywood Hogan persona and his real self, while also recognizing the “errors” he has made previously.
“Some fans boo the character, and there are WWE talents who have shared their thoughts, but I wonder what they say when I perform in places like New York or Chicago, where the crowd cheers me on. I’d love to hear their perspectives.
“It’s a two-sided coin for me, and it has always been. It’s woven into my persona, both professionally and personally. It’s all intertwined.
“Ultimately, I feel like a seasoned warrior, and many find it relatable because numerous individuals have encountered similar trials in their lives. A lot have made mistakes, whether personal or otherwise, and I remain relatable to many.
“If they choose to boo, that’s their choice. If they’re cheering for me, that’s just as appreciated. I’m not here to pass judgment, brother. I’m still in the game. I’m still active,” he concluded.
