For example, in 2001, when Lopez’s team arrived at Toronto Airport, they encountered a problem when one of her security team members tried to smuggle drugs into Canada. This bodyguard reportedly hid marijuana in his sock. Although the authorities opted not to charge him due to the minimal amount, it added unnecessary stress, especially with Lopez already facing legal issues related to her past boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs’s gun case.
With her commitment to a clean lifestyle, Lopez has always been clear about her stance on drugs and alcohol. “I don’t drink. Don’t like the taste. It would be a waste of money. Never done drugs either!” she shared with the Irish Independent. As a result, it was no surprise when she dismissed this bodyguard for his irresponsible behavior.
Another bodyguard faced an unusual assault
Jennifer Lopez’s security personnel have experienced odd incidents as well. Recently, Willie Gonzalez, a bodyguard with a reputable history protecting celebrities, gained media attention when he was pepper-sprayed by teenagers in his own apartment building in Manhattan. He recounted, “When my phone fell on the floor, I went to pick it up and that’s when this girl sprayed me. It went right into my eyes,” he told the New York Post. Despite potentially pursuing charges, Gonzalez expressed frustration over the troubling behavior of local youths, stating, “It’s a lack of respect. These kids don’t care anymore.” Lopez has not publicly responded to this incident since he was off duty at the time.
Interestingly, one of Lopez’s new bodyguards has gained popularity among her fans. Not her former partner Alex Rodriguez, but an unidentified security guard seen with her in London during November 2024 has caught attention online. Fans jokingly commented about wanting him to guard them instead, indicating that Lopez might have finally found a reliable and charming bodyguard.
