Jennifer Lopez made a notable return to the awards scene after her recent breakup with Ben Affleck by attending the American Music Awards’ 50th Anniversary Special on October 6.
The 55-year-old artist, known for performing at the AMAs multiple times and securing three awards, shared her thoughts on music’s transformative abilities through a pre-recorded message for the event. She also looked back fondly on her hosting stint at the AMAs in 2015, where she showcased a vibrant dance medley.
“The strength of music to heal and unite us is remarkable. The AMAs have illustrated this for 50 years, and I look forward to the next 50 years filled with musical experiences,” she noted.
This milestone celebration took place on CBS, marking the channel’s first time airing the event, which has historically been associated with ABC since 1974. J.Lo was amongst a plethora of stars like Gladys Knight, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, and Green Day to honor the significant event.
Mixed Reactions to J.Lo’s Appearance
Although many fans were excited about Jennifer Lopez‘s return, some expressed their disappointment regarding her lack of a live performance or in-person attendance.
One fan shared on Twitter, “Jennifer Lynn Lopez looks great as always. I just wish she were performing tonight. Celebrating 25 years of ON THE 6 would’ve been perfect for a medley.”
Conversely, another supporter remarked, “Critics can say what they want, but Jennifer Lopez is a PERFORMER. Regardless of the situation, she always puts on a SHOW.”
A fan reminisced, saying, “J.Lo has delivered many unforgettable moments at various #AMAs.”
Yet, some comments were less favorable, referencing her mispronunciation of Celia Cruz’s name, with one remarking, “Did JLO just say Suh-Leah Cruz? Seriously?”
As Lopez returns to television, she confronts personal difficulties, having filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20, coinciding with their second wedding anniversary after an extravagant ceremony in Georgia.
The couple revived their romance in 2021, nearly two decades after their initial relationship from 2002 to 2004, during which they were once engaged before calling it off.
