If you can find humor in a situation, what else is there? This seems to be the approach taken by Justin Timberlake following his DWI arrest when he appeared to crack a joke about the incident while performing in Boston post the June 17 event.
The actor from The Social Network graced the stage at TD Garden on June 29, entertaining his fans, and appeared to make light of his arrest in Sag Harbor, New York, where he was pulled over by an officer for suspicious driving behavior and suspected DUI.
“So, uh, is there anyone here tonight that is driving and… No, I’m just kidding,” joked Timberlake on stage as the audience erupted in laughter, with the moment going viral on social media shortly after.
Timberlake had dined with friends at the American Hotel before being stopped by the officer for running a stop sign in a 2025 BMW and failing to stay within the correct lane as per police documents.
“[His] eyes were bloodshot and glassy,” mentioned the arresting officer, who was unaware of who Timberlake was. “A strong smell of alcohol was evident on his breath; he struggled to focus.
“His speech was slurred; he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on all field sobriety tests.”
Timberlake subsequently declined a breathalyzer test and was arrested, spending the night in a cell to sober up before being charged with DUI, disregarding a stop sign, and lane violations.
“[We] eagerly await the opportunity to defend Mr. Timberlake against these charges,” stated Timberlake‘s lawyer to In Touch. “He will address this in due course.”
Timberlake becomes a viral meme
Sources suggest that the 43-year-old went unrecognized by the officer, prompting a comical exchange that has since circulated widely on social platforms.
Timberlake allegedly mumbled, “This incident will ruin the tour,” leading to the officer’s query, “What tour?” to which Timberlake responded, “The world tour,” spawning online jests relating to infamous confusion scenarios.
