Kanye West missed a recent deposition in Los Angeles where he is contesting allegations of racial discrimination and unfair treatment from a former security guard. The 47-year-old artist is currently in Japan with his wife, creating complications amid this ongoing legal issue.
Benjamin Deshon Provo, who was employed as a security guard, contends that West criticized him for refusing to cut his dreadlocks and subsequently terminated his employment. Provo notes that other staff members and children at the Donda Academy were not subjected to the same demands during a 2021 incident.
Interestingly, Provo asserts that West did not make similar requests of his white colleagues and didn’t raise his voice towards them, suggesting that his dismissal is influenced by his Islamic faith.
West refutes the allegations, claiming that the actions taken were justified based on the circumstances outlined in the lawsuit.
Mandated Appearance for Testimony
West has been absent from California for several months and is facing multiple legal challenges, including serious accusations such as rape, which have raised concerns for the well-being of his children.
Despite the lawsuit beginning in April 2024, West was ordered to give a sworn testimony in Los Angeles but opted to travel to Tokyo with Bianca Censori instead. This absence is troubling as noted in court documents, which specified that he did not attend the scheduled deposition on October 28, 2024.
“It is essential for Provo’s legal team to obtain this testimony promptly to establish all relevant facts for the case,” the documents stated, urging the court for timely action. Provo is also seeking sanctions against West, demanding $1,760 to cover his litigation costs related to this absence.
