Kate Beckinsale has disclosed the reason behind her extended hospital stay earlier this year, attributing a hole in her esophagus to overwhelming grief and stress.
The actress of “Serendipity” addressed critics of her weight loss on Instagram, defiantly responding to a disparaging remark about her appearance.
“No, actually. I watched my stepfather [director Roy Battersby] die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly,” Beckinsale clarified. The intense grief had led to a literal “hole” in her esophagus, causing severe bleeding.
She went on to share her experiences on Instagram, shedding light on the toll that grief and stress had taken on her health.
Kate Beckinsale’s Bold Response
After enduring a six-week hospital stay, Kate Beckinsale opened up about the challenging period of physical and emotional distress she faced. She boldly expressed, “I found eating very hard and I just worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father so I’m not really concerned about what you think about my ass.”
Addressing critics directly, she added, “Maybe you should worry about your own f-king ass,” and suggested, “shoving something up it – like a large pineapple or a brick.”
Kate Beckinsale had initially announced her hospitalization in March, hinting at “tummy troubles”. Her recent appearance in early May sparked plastic surgery speculations, which she promptly dismissed.
Sharing a glimpse of her past, Kate mentioned on social media, “I used to pluck the sh*t out of my eyebrows … I had a fuller face as most of us do in our late teens and 20s. Makeup techniques were matte, not nearly so glossy.”
Kate Stands Strong Against Criticism
Amid concerns about her weight, Kate Beckinsale addressed her struggles candidly. She shared, “I am trying to survive what feel like unbearable losses, reactivated PTSD from discovering my very young father’s almost dead body as a very young child alone in the night, and working to support the family I have left.”
Emphasizing that others’ opinions on her appearance are insignificant in the face of her personal hardships, she remarked, “What you think of my appearance and how I should look, independently of any circumstances in my life and my family’s, is not important.”
