Kayla Nicole has recently shared her struggles with the burden of being compared to Taylor Swift. This comes two years after her relationship with Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs ended.
Nicole and Kelce had an on-and-off relationship from 2017 until their breakup in 2022, which seemed to end on friendly terms. While she remains single, Kelce has happily moved on with Swift.
Despite this, Nicole feels undermined in her happiness and self-esteem due to ongoing social media comparisons to the famous singer, alongside receiving negative comments online.
“I face a lot of negativity because he’s now with such a huge star,” Nicole expressed on the show Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. “I genuinely like her and recognize her talent.”

Nicole spoke about the difficulty of being seen merely as “someone’s ex.” She expressed a desire to break free from that label, questioning if she is doing enough in her own life.
Though she doesn’t often comment on Swift, the singer’s fans have made her feel pressured, especially after the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024. Nicole has urged fans to respect her space, stating that even harmless posts about everyday things lead to remarks about her past relationship.
“It can be about anything, and I get dragged back into the conversation about my ex and his new partner,” she lamented. “This constant scrutiny impacts my sense of self-worth.”
Nicole finds strength
The ongoing comparisons to Swift have deeply affected Nicole’s self-esteem. However, her participation in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test seems to be helping her regain her confidence. Billy Billingham noted a significant shift in her attitude during the show.
“She started off questioning herself and feeling lost,” Billingham shared with DECIDER. “At one point, she nearly gave up. During a challenging exercise, she realized, ‘Everyone knows my story, but I won’t let it control me.’ After that moment, she truly excelled. She embraced the tough conditions and pushed through with determination.”
