“It’s a crushing moment,” Costner confessed during an interview on CBS Mornings. “It’s intense and it was painful.”

Despite the difficulties, Costner stressed the need to move forward as he felt responsible for his children.

“So, I can’t just give up,” he added.

“I need to progress, stay true to myself, and be mindful of my children’s well-being.”

What steps will Costner take now?

Costner and Baumgartner, who is 50 years old, have three children – Cayden Wyatt (17), Hayes Logan (15), and Grace Avery (14). They were engaged in a legal battle over child support payments, with Baumgartner arguing that the children were accustomed to a lavish lifestyle requiring Costner to pay more.

Eventually, a court ruled that Costner was to pay $63,209 monthly in child support, which was less than half of Baumgartner’s original request.

The divorcees also disagreed on spousal support and the terms of their prenuptial agreement. The divorce was settled in September 2023, with the finalization occurring in February the following year. Details of the settlement were kept private, but Baumgartner had to cover over $1 million of Costner’s legal fees for contesting the prenup.

Costner has been open about the emotional impact of this experience. In a GQ interview in May, he expressed feeling “shattered” but remained committed to his ongoing projects.

“Regardless of how shattered I feel, no matter how broken I am each day … I have a duty to those involved in these projects,” he shared.
