Tradition is of utmost importance to the Royal Family, particularly for King Charles. For many years, they have adhered to the long-standing customs of royal decorum, safeguarding their elevated status. From their attire to their gestures and public interactions, each action seems choreographed by age-old standpoints. Their behavior isn’t about being aloof—it’s about embodying royalty.
Although there isn’t a formal rule declaring “No touching the King of England,” it’s commonly accepted that unsolicited contact is frowned upon. Yet, not everyone seems to be aware of this. One particularly eager tailor, ecstatic about meeting the King, decided to embrace him with an all-out, genuine hug. We’re talking about a full-fledged, warm hug, rather than a brief touch or courteous lean-in—this was an embrace that would fit right in at a family gathering.
An unexpected royal embrace
King Charles appeared taken aback, visibly flinching in discomfort. Nevertheless, instead of reacting dramatically, he opted for composure, allowing the moment to unfold. Moreover, unless there’s a genuine threat, royal security usually allows such heartfelt moments to occur. After all, respect and discretion are crucial aspects of the royal image.
Ultimately, while the King appeared briefly startled, the hug left a lasting impression—particularly for the tailor. It also highlighted an important truth for those who encounter royalty: genuine emotions and gestures, although heartfelt, often clash with the expected norms of royal decorum. Such actions aren’t out of line — but they’re certainly not the norm.
