Liam Payne of One Direction tragically lost his life in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, reportedly after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol and drugs. Witnesses indicate that he drank nine bottles of whisky, ingested 13 grams of cocaine, and solicited two sex workers prior to his fatal plunge from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. Investigators eventually concluded that although he was grappling with mental health issues, his death was not a suicide; his intoxication impaired his judgment regarding the dangers present.
According to sources, Payne’s night of drinking began at 10 PM on October 15, when he ordered four bottles of whisky to his room. He later requested five more bottles at around 6:36 AM on the day of his death.
It is reported that he expressed intentions to engage with a prostitute to Rogelio Nores, a local businessman. Shortly after, he ordered six grams of cocaine, prompting Nores to visit him at the hotel.
During a breakfast meeting where liquor was still flowing, Nores accompanied Payne while the hotel staff tidied his room. It is noted that Payne appeared frantic and was searching for something during this time.
At around 11:30 AM, two sex workers came to the room, and after an encounter, complications arose when they asked for payment, which Payne seemed to resist. He reportedly became aggressive when they requested their dues, even damaging a TV in his frustration.
By 2 PM, he asked for more cocaine from hotel staff. Nores returned later in the afternoon to settle the matter with the sex workers. Reports indicate staff members noticed Payne was highly intoxicated, showing signs of distress such as dilated pupils.
After leaving the room, Nores texted Payne to check on him but received no response. He later stated that Payne seemed fine prior to the incident. Unfortunately, Payne fell from the building, suffering severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His funeral took place on November 20 in the UK, attended by family, friends, and some of his fellow band members.
Charges Against Nores
While allegations are being presented, they have yet to be proven in court. Nores faces charges for abandonment, as he is accused of leaving Payne alone despite knowing about his mental health struggles.
Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, stated that Nores had committed to looking out for his son and was advised not to leave him unsupervised during this vulnerable time. Despite the gravity of the accusations, Nores maintains his innocence regarding the death, and a judge ruled against charging him with abandonment; however, local prosecutors still have the option to pursue legal action against him.
Additionally, two other individuals have been implicated for allegedly providing drugs to Payne—one identified as a dealer and the other associated with the hotel.
