Mariah Carey is making headlines as she prepares for her upcoming Christmas Time tour, highlighted by some remarkable demands she has made.
The 55-year-old icon is kicking off another festive concert series, reaffirming her title as the queen of the holiday season. This year is particularly significant, marking three decades since the release of her iconic holiday hit, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’.
Although Carey is known for her diva persona, this year’s requirements have amplified that impression.
Insiders point out that production crew members have been instructed “not to converse with Mariah or take any photos with her” and she has expressly mentioned not wanting to tour with “unattractive dancers”.
“Mariah is being particularly demanding this year,” a source shared with DailyMail.com. “Her compensation is extraordinary, and rehearsals began in late September as she aims for her most spectacular tour yet.”
“One notable request is that her main backup performers consist entirely of “attractive” men; she specifically requested to avoid having any less desirable dancers.”
Additionally, she has asked for hair and makeup services during rehearsals.
Furthermore, everyone involved in the production has been instructed to refrain from speaking to Mariah or taking photographs with her.
Mariah’s Potential Earnings
Despite the tour includes only 21 performances, reports suggest that Carey is poised to earn millions from her shows.
It’s no surprise considering she has raked in $70 million from her beloved Christmas song, which has topped charts in 30 different countries.
According to the New York Post, Carey garners about $3 million annually from the track, which led her to announce The Fantasy tour back in August in celebration of the song’s milestone anniversary.
With her royalty share estimated at 20 percent, Mariah has fully embraced the Christmas spirit over the years. She heralds the start of the Christmas season to her fans every November 1 by declaring, “It’s timeeeee.”
In a conversation with the LA Times from 2020, Mariah Carey reflected on the making of her debut holiday album, “Merry Christmas,” stating it was early in her career.
She described a creative moment when she crafted a melody in a dark room, accompanied by a Christmas tree.
In a recent interview with Parade in 2023, she revealed insights about composing the song with renowned collaborator Walter Afanasieff, who is 66 years old.
Carey reminisced about using a small DX7 or Casio keyboard while living in a home in Upstate New York, focusing on jotting down feelings and memories associated with Christmas that she wished to share.
She noted the time-intensive nature of their recording process, emphasizing the complexity of layering background vocals, which could not be rushed.
