Martin Scorsese Delays Ambitious Biopics of Sinatra and Jesus Christ to 2025

Martin Scorsese misses out on his two big 2025 projects: Sinatra and Jesus Christ biopics postponed

Few filmmakers in Hollywood have an extensive and impressive body of work like Martin Scorsese. However, despite a promising 2025, his plans have faced an unexpected setback, as reported by Variety. Both the highly anticipated films about Jesus Christ and Frank Sinatra will be put on hold indefinitely.

Initially, Scorsese aimed to film both projects consecutively, intending for their release to be closely timed. Now, at 81 years old, the director must revise his agenda and look for new opportunities.

Family Opposition to the Sinatra Biopic

According to reports, the Sinatra biopic was set to start production next November. However, all staff originally scheduled for the shoot have been informed that the project is currently canceled with no clear timeline for resuming.

Speculation indicates that Sinatra’s family, particularly his daughter Tina Sinatra, disapproves of the narrative direction that focuses on the singer’s relationship with Ava Gardner, which contributed to his parents’ separation. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence were rumored to be the top choices for lead roles in the film.

On a more positive note, the project about Jesus Christ, based on Shusaku Endo’s novel ‘A Life of Jesus’ and titled ‘The Life of Jesus’, is perceived to have a brighter future. According to Variety, Scorsese aims to remain true to the source material and present a unique perspective on the subject.
