Maya Henry, who was previously engaged to Liam Payne, disclosed that the singer shared troubling thoughts about his mortality shortly before he passed away at 31. Their relationship spanned from 2018 to 2022, and Henry discussed Payne’s mental health issues along with the complicated nature of their relationship.
The 23-year-old influencer indicated that even after their split, Payne would reach out, employing what she referred to as “manipulative tactics” to gain her sympathy.
Henry shared that Payne would frequently send her concerning texts implying he was in distress, which she felt were intended to induce guilt in her.
On “The Internet Is Dead” podcast, she recounted, “He would always message me ever since we broke up [saying], ‘Oh, I’m not well.'”
She continued, “He would frequently joke about dying, saying things like, ‘I’m going to die. I’m not doing well.’
Henry recounted a time when she attempted to help him, but he resisted. “He even texted my mom, saying, ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya reach out to me,’ because I wasn’t responding.”
She expressed, “It always felt like the same cycle.”
“I take statements about death seriously. When someone says that, I feel compelled to help, regardless of past actions. I believe he exploited my family’s generosity.”
Contacting her mother
In February of this year, Henry announced her upcoming book, “Looking Forward,” a fictional work inspired by her personal journals from her time with the former One Direction member.
She claimed that during the book’s development, Payne reached out to her mother with a chilling message: “I’m not going to be around much longer.”
Henry also noted that a friend of Payne warned her against publishing the book, expressing concerns about its potential impact on his mental health.
Throughout the podcast, Henry elaborated on her attempts to assist Payne , encouraging him to seek rehab, but ultimately felt his behavior was manipulative, leading her to question his true intentions.
