AA federal court in the United States has forbidden a doctor, who confessed to being part of the incident leading to the demise of well-known “Friends” star Matthew Perry, from practicing medicine, as per authorities’ statement on Friday.
Mark Chavez, aged 54, who acknowledged his involvement in distributing ketamine as part of a deal struck with authorities, was granted bail of $50,000 in a Los Angeles court.
Chavez is among five individuals charged federally for the unfortunate event that took place in October 2023, wherein Perry was discovered deceased due to a ketamine overdose in his hot tub at 54 years old. Two others implicated, a live-in assistant and an associate, have agreed to confess to their offenses.
Multiple Individuals Linked to the Tragedy
The other physician involved, Salvador Plasencia, allegedly collaborated with Chavez in ketamine supply, according to prosecutors. The vials, valued at $12, were sold to the actor for $2,000. Jasveen Sangha, a dealer known as “The Ketamine Queen” catering drugs to prominent figures and celebrities, was accused of providing Perry with the fatal dosage.
Plasencia and Sangha face a charge of distributing ketamine in conspiracy, alongside a series of additional charges, which they have refuted. Their trials are scheduled for October, with potential lengthy prison terms awaiting them if proven guilty.
Chavez, who confessed in his plea to providing ketamine to Plasencia, including diverted doses from his former ketamine clinic, is anticipated to formally lodge his plea in the upcoming days or weeks.
