Mel B, famously recognized as Scary Spice from the iconic Spice Girls, has recently revisited a past conflict involving Sean “Diddy” Combs during the rehearsals for the 1998 MOBO Awards. In the newly revised edition of her memoir, Brutally Honest, the 49-year-old music star criticized the rapper for his rude and dismissive conduct.
Mel B, who was to co-host the awards with comedian Bill Bellamy, required time to prepare for her segment. However, Diddy, then known as Puff Daddy, extended his rehearsal time with an extensive entourage, neglecting her requests to vacate the stage.
Confrontation before the event
“I was furious,” Mel recalled. When there was only an hour left before the event, she confronted Diddy directly. As per her account, he responded by insulting her over the microphone. Unwilling to be insulted, Mel insisted on her rehearsal time, emphasizing that such behavior was not acceptable.
“People see me as tough, and I had to be on that occasion,” she stated. “This was a British award show, and we conduct ourselves differently in the UK.”
An insincere gesture
Eventually, Mel received the opportunity to practice, but Diddy tried to make amends by gifting her a branded jacket. She found the gesture unremarkable and unacceptable.
“I tossed it back at his bouncer,” she recounted. “No one has the right to treat another person like that, and a cheap jacket wouldn’t make it right.”
Despite the altercation, Mel continued with the awards and even returned to host the following year.
Diddy’s Ongoing Legal Issues
The latest events arise as Diddy confronts serious accusations that involve sex trafficking and racketeering. Presently, he is detained and anticipates a trial set for May 2025. Reports indicate that his condition has noticeably changed while incarcerated, with significant weight loss and his hair turning gray.
