The acclaimed actress Naomi Watts from the UK has shared insights into her personal journey, particularly about her challenges with infertility. Now proud mother of two teenagers, Sasha and Kai, aged 17 and 16, the road to motherhood was far from straightforward.
At the age of 36, while involved with American actor and director Liev Schreiber, the thought of becoming a mother entered her mind. Reflecting on this time, she stated, “Having spent my whole adult life avoiding pregnancy, I thought getting pregnant would be easy once I was ready. I expected to conceive right away, perhaps after a couple of attempts. But as the months passed, nothing happened.”
Naomi recounts, “I spent a small fortune on treatments but would have gone to great lengths financially to address this issue. They even performed scans to check my ovarian follicles and egg development… None were successful.” Initially, she attempted to track her ovulation and basal temperature, but all efforts yielded no results.
She later discovered she was not eligible for in vitro fertilization due to her hormone levels, leading her to try fertility medications and intrauterine insemination. “I would have done anything, even the most ridiculous things, if it meant a chance of success,” she expressed.
Watts: “My aim was to support those experiencing menopause”
Eventually, the long-awaited news arrived while she was working on the film ‘Eastern Promises’ alongside Viggo Mortensen. Despite having to perform a stunt, she continued with her role.
“I wrote this for anyone navigating menopause, seeking clarity on the changes, as well as for future generations to prepare themselves and avoid entering this phase blindly, as I did,” Watts stated.
