Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic vocalist behind Crazy Train, is experiencing considerable difficulties due to Parkinson’s disease, a condition he has dealt with since 2019. Although the disease has greatly affected his mobility, his wife, Sharon Osbourne, reassures fans that his vocal abilities remain robust. She stated, “His voice is as good as it’s ever been,” highlighting that, while Parkinson’s has impacted his legs, his musical abilities have not declined.
Now at 76, the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is gearing up for a heartfelt farewell to fans and the rock lifestyle. He recently revealed plans for his final performance with Black Sabbath, featuring a reunion of the original band members—Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward—for the first time in twenty years.
The highly awaited “Back to the Beginning” charity concert is scheduled for July 5 at Villa Park in England, showcasing an impressive lineup that includes Metallica, Slayer, Lamb of God, Alice in Chains, and Anthrax. Sharon shared that this final performance holds deep significance for Ozzy, commenting, “He’s very happy to be coming back and very emotional about this.“
Ozzy has faced serious health challenges over the years. Initially diagnosed in 2003, his condition intensified following a fall in 2019, resulting in multiple surgeries. Recently, in September 2023, he had spinal surgery that he described as having left him “practically crippled.”
Black Sabbath comes together for a final performance
Even with these obstacles, Ozzy has pursued multiple treatments, including stem cell therapy and Hybrid Assistive Limb technology, in hopes of enhancing his quality of life. Earlier this year, he decided to stop touring due to his health, but he is resolute about making one last unforgettable appearance. Sharon explained, “Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s been no full stop. This is his full stop.“
While the forthcoming concert is set to be a memorable occasion for Black Sabbath enthusiasts, it will not be accessible to everyone. When asked about the possibility of Kanye West attending—especially after he sampled the band’s renowned song “Iron Man” without consent—Sharon decisively stated, “No, not at all,” while adding some blunt comments about Kanye’s wife, Bianca Censori.
Ozzy Osbourne’s evolution from founding Black Sabbath in Birmingham in 1968 to being one of metal’s most pivotal figures is truly remarkable. This final show will certainly be an emotional and historic experience for both Ozzy and his supporters.
