Makeup can effectively cover up various skin imperfections like hangover redness or blemishes. However, it can also lead to an unflattering appearance, as seen in Scarlett Johansson’s latest makeup misstep, which made her appear older than her 39 years.
Johansson looked stunning in a burgundy off-the-shoulder dress during the premiere of “Transformers One” in London on September 19, 2024. While her stylist received applause, her makeup artist fell short. The makeup choice leaned too dark, overshadowing her youthful glow and reminding us of the importance of a lighter touch.
“Dark eye makeup can age someone with a lighter skin tone,” states Prime Prometics. It cautions against excessive use of heavy eyeliner and vibrant colors. The key is achieving a natural look without overdoing foundation, blush, and eye makeup. Despite the makeup error, Johansson still exuded beauty, albeit in a different manner than usual.
Johansson embraces the dark side
Johansson’s makeup did not fare well when she coordinated her lipstick and eyeshadow with her dark dress at the “Transformers One” premiere. Thankfully, her mistake wasn’t as shocking as some celebrity blunders, particularly those of the Trump family, which have left many astounded. A notable instance was Donald Trump’s makeup disaster during a Dr. Phil interview in August 2024.
Despite this, looking slightly older is hardly an issue, especially since Johansson has previously dealt with perceptions of looking older than her age. She discussed this on the “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepard in October 2022, sharing her experiences as a young actress often seen as older.
Shepherd noted that she was perceived as “15 going on 30,” and Johansson confirmed that starting her career young led to being treated as an adult. Reflecting on her early marriage at 23, she mentioned feeling mature for her age, which came with challenges, such as limited work opportunities due to being miscast and objectified as a result of her looks.
