Sinead O’Connor’s Legacy Lives On Through Her Children as They Honor Her Final Wishes

Sinead O’Connor, a legendary Irish artist celebrated for her remarkable voice and hits like “Nothing Compares 2 U,” has bequeathed the majority of her estate, amounting to $1.7 million, to her children following her untimely death in 2023. However, after settling debts, funeral costs, and legal fees, the total inheritance diminished to $1.4 million, as per probate records accessed by the US Sun.

O’Connor, who departed this life on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56, outlined her desires in a will drafted in 2013. Notably, she wished for her music to be released after her death, with her adult children having the authority to manage it. She expressed a desire for her albums to be fully utilized for their value.

The will also requested that O’Connor be dressed in priestly attire for her funeral, along with a Hebrew bible and her 2007 album, Theology, to be placed in her coffin. Her spiritual and cultural beliefs were significant throughout her life, and she ensured these elements were incorporated into her funeral plans.

“My children can distribute my ashes as they decide,” stated her will.

O’Connor‘s youngest son, Yeshua Bonadio, was specifically designated to inherit her collection of guitars, while her deceased son Shane, who sadly took his life in 2022, was to receive her religious artifacts.

O’Connor‘s former husband, John Reynolds, who was wed to her from 1987 until 1991, has been entrusted as the executor of her estate.

Reynolds, a musician in his own right, is responsible for fulfilling her last wishes. While the specifics of her estate in the UK remain undisclosed, details regarding her estate in Ireland have been made available.

Cause of Death

O’Connor passed away just 18 months after the death of her son Shane. The official cause of her death was identified as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, with a respiratory infection being a contributing factor.

After her passing, her family released a statement to RTE, confirming her death and requesting privacy as they grieve.

“We are heartbroken to announce the loss of our cherished Sinead,” the statement expressed. “Her family and friends are in deep sorrow and have asked for privacy during this painful time.”
