Sophia Smith Finds Love Again: Engaged Just Two Months After Liam Payne’s Passing

Liam Payne's ex, Sophia Smith, engaged just two months after his tragic death

Sophia Smith, who used to be in a relationship with Liam Payne, has gotten engaged to her partner James Bridgwood.

This announcement comes just two months after the tragic passing of the singer. Smith shared a heartfelt black-and-white clip of the proposal on her Instagram account.

The video features her and James in pajamas, sitting on a floor adorned with rose petals, alongside a bottle of prosecco.

In the sweet moment, Bridgwood places an engagement ring on Smith’s finger, as their one-year-old daughter Angelina plays nearby.

She joyfully captioned the video, “Yes a million times over 25.12.24,” which garnered numerous responses from friends and admirers.

Smith made her relationship with Bridgwood public on Instagram in June 2022, revealing her pregnancy with their first child in December of the same year.

Smith’s Past with Payne

Smith and Payne were childhood friends from Wolverhampton, England, later dating between 2013 and 2015.

“At that young age, I didn’t actually date her,” Payne shared with Attitude in 2015. “We would talk at school and I even asked her sister for her number.”

“She was quite reserved and gave off no hints of her interest in me, which led me to believe she wasn’t attracted to me, especially since I thought she was too beautiful,” he added.

According to Payne, they even contemplated marriage, but eventually chose to prioritize their careers when they ended their relationship in October 2015.

“Being on tour this year and being away from her was challenging,” Payne expressed to the Sun. “The distance was tough on us, but sometimes doing what is best for someone means sacrificing your own desires.”

After his relationship with Smith, Payne went on to have relationships with Cheryl Cole, Maya Henry, and Kate Cassidy, the latter being his partner at the time of his passing on October 16 at age 31.
