During her November 2023 concert in Rio de Janeiro, Swift’s Louboutin heel broke while performing a number from the “Lover” era. Instead of halting the show, Swift cleverly removed the broken shoe part and tossed it to the audience. Fortuitously, Conrado, age 33, caught it.
“It was like a dream,” Conrado recounted. “Taylor bent down, pulled the heel off, and threw it perfectly into my hands!”
This remarkable souvenir soon evolved into a significant opportunity.
Harnessing the spotlight for cancer awareness
Once the video of this iconic moment went viral, amassing over 100 million views on Instagram, Conrado recognized an opportunity to assist his cousin Ângela, who was struggling with melanoma. “I thought about how to make this meaningful,” Conrado shared. His decision? To auction the heel to support Ângela’s medical expenses.
The reaction from the Swift community was mixed; many admired his selflessness, while others suggested he should keep the famous memorabilia. The event even attracted the attention of Christian Louboutin, who made a heartfelt gesture.
“Louboutin sent me a handwritten note and promised to cover the costs of Ângela’s treatment,” Conrado stated. “It was a profoundly moving experience for our family.”
A joyful conclusion
After undergoing 12 rounds of chemotherapy over the course of a year, Ângela is now in remission, a success made possible by the collective goodwill of Swifties, Louboutin, and Conrado’s quick actions.
As for the famous heel? Conrado intends to showcase it in a custom frame along with his Taylor Swift collectables. “It’s more than just a concert relic; it symbolizes the strength of community and kindness,” he remarked.
For now, the broken heel is carefully preserved, serving as a memento of a unique moment that unexpectedly transformed lives.
