Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was halted as authorities foiled a planned terror attack at the packed Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna.
Two suspects, aged 19 and 17, were arrested in connection with the scheme that involved a bomb, knives, and a vehicle attack.
The main suspect, a 19-year-old, had quit his job and showed signs of radicalization targeting Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna.
Authorities uncovered the suspects’ plan which included a car ramming, knife attacks, and explosives manufactured at the suspect’s home.
Details of the Plot
The 19-year-old admitted to planning an attack outside the concert venue to cause mass casualties.
- The second suspect was already present at the stadium.
- A video claiming responsibility was recorded by the radicalized Islamist.
- Detonators and a fake police vehicle siren were found in possession of the teenager.
Chemical substances for making explosives were discovered at the suspect’s residence by the bomb squad.
The suspects have diverse backgrounds, with one having North Macedonian roots and the other having Austrian nationality with Turkish and Croatian heritage.
An additional individual, a 15-year-old Austrian with Turkish heritage, was also investigated for communication with the suspects.
