The Hawk Tuah Girl: The Question That Sparked Fame and Seclusion

Hawk Tuah girl speaks about the question that gave her fame and also forced her into hiding

Haliey Welch, a 21-year-old who gained fame as the “Hawk Tuah Girl,” recently shared her journey of newfound celebrity in an interview with PEOPLE.

Her rise to internet stardom began in June after she made a bold remark during a street interview in Nashville, which quickly went viral.

When posed with the question, “What’s one move in bed that drives a man wild?” she confidently replied, “You gotta give ’em that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thang!” This cheeky answer made her an online sensation almost instantly.

Her fame came fast and unexpectedly, originating from a small rural community in Belfast, Tennessee, where the population is only 844.

Before the viral incident, Welch was employed at a spring factory, but upon the video going viral with over 18 million views, her life changed dramatically.

She experienced a whirlwind of attention overnight, replacing her previous low-profile lifestyle with the challenges of fame.

Describing her sudden popularity, Welch expressed that it was “hella hectic,” noting how her friends were inundating their group chats with messages just days after the video was released.

Initially, this overwhelming attention caused Welch to feel embarrassed, prompting her to take a break from public life for two weeks to adjust.

Influence from Hometown and Family

Welch grew up with her grandmother, with whom she continues to live, ultimately coming to terms with her viral fame.

Her grandmother not only found humor in the situation but also fostered Welch’s candid personality, with Welch quipping, “That’s where I get my mouth from.”

Despite newfound popularity, Welch remains humble. She recently quit her factory job to pursue fresh prospects, including expanding her presence on social media.

With 2.5 million followers on Instagram, she is committed to social causes, launching Paws Across America—a charity aimed at supporting animal welfare.

“I didn’t ask for this, but I’m thankful. I want to help others too,” she expressed, emphasizing her philanthropic goals.

Welch’s fame has also opened doors to celebrity encounters, allowing her to share stages with renowned personalities like Zach Bryan and collaborate with Shaquille O’Neal in the DJ scene.

She has also started her own podcast, Talk Tuah, which is resonating well, ranking as the No. 3 Comedy Podcast on Spotify. The show features discussions on dating and life experiences with celebrity guests.

Despite her swift rise to fame, Welch has no intentions of abandoning her humble beginnings. She appreciates the tranquility of life in Belfast, affirming, “That’s my peace of mind.”

Currently, Welch is dedicated to her podcast and utilizing her platform positively, while maintaining her ties to her hometown in Tennessee.
