Travis Kelce is stepping away from the NFL to explore television, making his debut in FX’s Grotesquerie on the episode that aired on October 2. During his appearance, he may have paid a subtle homage to Taylor Swift.
The 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs player has long harbored an interest in acting, landing a role in Ryan Murphy’s latest Halloween film after his successful stint in American Horror Story (2011-present). He showcased his talent by delivering lines seamlessly.
Kelce played a charming nurse who offers to bake for Niecy Nash-Betts’ Detective Lois Tryon. This scene seemed to include a reference to his girlfriend from the Eras Tour.
“You know what I like? Pop-Tarts without the frosting,” Kelce’s character Ed Laclan said, which might connect to Swift’s act of sending Pop-Tarts to the Chiefs during the 2023 NFL season, coinciding with their Super Bowl LVIII victory.
The tight end is scheduled to return to the football field on Monday, October 7, where the Chiefs will face the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome, kicking off at 20:15 ET/17:15 PT.
Fan Excitement over the Reference
Taylor Swift’s dedicated fanbase closely analyzes everything related to her and Kelce, so the subtle reference didn’t escape their attention.
Fans flocked to X.com (formerly Twitter) to discuss the nod to the beloved pop star, celebrating the couple’s connection.
One comment read, “POP TART MENTION HELLO.”
Another noted, “Killatrav liking ‘pop tarts’ in #grotesquerie sounds familiar lol.”
A third fan claimed that Swift herself “sent pop tarts to the set with him so they had to change the script.. I see what y’all did there #grotesquerie.”
