However, while he seems to be an ideal partner to Kamala Harris, his track record with his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff, who is the mother of his two adult children, tells a different story.

In August 2024, the Daily Mail revealed that Emhoff was involved in an affair with the family’s nanny during his first marriage, leading to an unexpected pregnancy. Although Emhoff’s representative, Liza Acevedo, chose not to comment on these claims, he did address them indirectly in a statement to CNN. “During my first marriage, there were challenging times due to my decisions. I took responsibility, and we have since navigated these difficulties as a family, emerging stronger,” he stated. Thankfully, there seems to be no animosity among Doug, Kamala, and Kerstin. Kerstin herself acknowledged that Doug is more supportive in his marriage to Kamala. “He is definitely a better husband now, and that’s a positive thing,” she shared with Time in November 2021. “That’s how it should be.”
