Victoria Beckham is a prominent figure with a successful career that spans music and fashion. She’s established herself as a formidable businesswoman as well. Notably, she is recognized for her self-discipline and seriousness. However, she recently shared an intriguing aspect of her personality that showcases her vulnerability: despite her beauty, she rarely smiles in photographs.
Despite her acclaim, the 50-year-old designer often avoids smiling at public engagements. This stems from her struggles with “problematic skin.” Having dealt with acne during her teenage years, she has faced significant insecurity over her appearance.
Although she gained fame in her 20s as a member of The Spice Girls, these feelings of insecurity lingered. Despite overcoming many obstacles, she acknowledges still battling self-esteem issues tied to her skin, which hindered her ability to smile openly.
In a conversation with The Telegraph, Beckham opened up about her path to self-acceptance after winning the inaugural Beauty Brand of the Year award. She highlighted her commitment to skincare and how she’s carefully followed a strict beauty regimen and diet.
“I probably looked severe in many pictures, but I was very uncomfortable,” Victoria shared.
Her husband, David Beckham, has also commented on her rigorous dietary habits, noting that “she eats the same thing every day for 25 years: grilled fish and steamed vegetables.”
Victoria explained that these dietary choices were primarily driven by her skin concerns, leading her to cut out various foods, including meat and wheat.
Victoria Beckham’s path to embracing her smile
Today, Victoria expresses feeling more at ease with herself, often showcasing her smile and appearing in public with minimal makeup, reflecting her newfound confidence.
“If you had told me a few years ago that I would walk a red carpet to collect an award wearing just a little concealer and no foundation, I would have thought you were crazy, but that’s what I did last week.”
She admits that aging feels liberating and has led her to ignore negative press and social media comments, saying “I just don’t have time.”
In a discussion with Harper’s Bazaar, she mentioned that her concern for fame has waned: “I guess it used to be fun to go out and be chased by the paparazzi while walking down Bond Street, and you dressed knowing you were going to be chased. I don’t want that anymore.”
Recently, Victoria turned heads in a beautiful backless white dress at a dinner event with Mytheresa, celebrating her new partywear collection. Accompanied by her husband David and son Romeo, she showcased her toned figure in a flowing midi dress with burgundy heels and a clutch bag.
