On December 10, during a holiday event in Bulford, Wiltshire, Prince William had a memorable encounter while engaging with soldiers and their families from the 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment. Among the festivities, one standout gift was a drawing created by a local 10-year-old. The artwork humorously highlighted the royal’s evolving beard and addressed his noticeable hair change.
William took the child’s sketch in good humor and appreciated the gesture. He also received other gifts meant for his children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The gathering included a visit from the regimental ram ‘Derby’ and featured a choir performance. Appointed as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment by King Charles III in 2023, part of William’s role involves these holiday events and understanding the needs of military families. This visit marked William’s second time with the regiment, amidst a busy schedule of royal holiday activities.
Prince William has various holiday responsibilities
Although the December 10 event is one he won’t soon forget, it wasn’t William’s only holiday-related commitment this year. On December 5, he collaborated with charity The Passage to provide meals for the homeless in London. The following day, he, along with Kate Middleton and their three children, participated in the “Together at Christmas” carol service. Initiated by Kate in 2021, this annual event celebrates those who have provided inspiration, support, and love throughout the year, marking another step in Middleton’s return to royal duties.
However, the holiday cheer for William and his family continues beyond the regiment visit. While engaging with military families, he teased that their Christmas in 2024 will feature a significant family gathering, hinting at a return to traditional celebrations for the royals after a challenging previous year.
