"Film 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' Wins Best Picture at Oscars"

At the 2023 Oscars on Sunday, March 12, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” took home the coveted Best Picture award. The movie had already won several other awards earlier in the night, including Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Best Film Editing for Paul Rogers. Stephanie Hsu was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Brendan Fraser was awarded Best Actor for his performance in “The Whale”.

Harrison Ford presented the group with the Best Picture award, which was fitting as he had worked with Quan on “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” in 1984. Producer Jonathan Wang thanked the movie’s “brilliant and big-hearted” cast and crew during his speech, as well as his late father who taught him “no person is more important than profits, and no one is more important than anyone else”. The Daniels took the mic one more time to thank everyone at the end of their speech, with Kwan saying, “One of the best things we can do is shelter each other from the chaos of this world”.

The other Best Picture nominees were “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness,” and “Women Talking”. The group of 10 nominees represented both blockbuster films and smaller, more arthouse films. The German-language “All Quiet on the Western Front” was the second-biggest winner of the night, winning four awards during the ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
