Quavo and Offset Reunite to Honor Takeoff at the BET Awards: “For the Rocket”

Just days after celebrating what would have been Takeoff’s 29th birthday, Quavo and Offset reunited for a special surprise performance at the 2023 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Migos rappers performed their hits “Hotel Lobby” and “Bad & Boujee” in front of a projected video of a space shuttle launching into the sky that then turned into an image of the late Takeoff. At one point during the performance, the Migos duo shouted out, “BET, this one’s for Take!”

After taking the stage, Offset posted a video of the performance on Instagram, writing, “Do this sh*t for the fam cuz this sh*t bigger than me #LL🚀.” Quavo also commemorated the moment on his page, captioning his post, “For The Rocket ❤️‍🩹🚀 #RocketPower🚀.”

Takeoff was fatally shot on Nov. 1, 2022, at a Houston bowling alley. He was 28 at the time of his death, and June 18 marked what would have been his 29th birthday. In honor of his nephew, Takeoff’s uncle Quavo posted a video from a shopping trip he took with him on Instagram. “Happy Birthday @yrntakeoff can’t wait for days like this again!!! BEST believe we goin up all week the Rocket way GEEKD 😵‍💫 u 29 nigga 🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀,” Quavo captioned the clip.

Offset shared a tribute to his former band member on his Instagram as well. “Happy birthday rocket man 🚀,” he wrote alongside a series of photos of Takeoff. “the greatest to touch a mic!! best spirit ever!! purest man I know your heart was golden bring me peace bra we celebrate your life because you still right here I love you gang 🚀🚀🚀🚀.”
