The series will also star “Party Down”‘s Ken Marino as President Morgan’s oldest friend and trusted advisor, “Stranger Things”‘s Al Mitchell as head butler and maître d’, Dan Perrault as head of the presidential detail for the secret service, “Our Flag Means Death” star Bronson Pinchot as an executive pastry chef, “This Is Us” actor Susan Kelechi Watson as a rising White House assistant usher, “The Wire”‘s Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Chief of Police Larry Dokes, and Mary Wiseman as executive chef Marvella.
As we eagerly await “Bridgerton” season three, Shondaland is taking a deep dive into the whodunnit crime genre with a new White House-based drama series titled “The Residence.” Executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and Shondaland’s Betsy Beers, the eight-episode mystery series is almost guaranteed to deliver twists and turns that will leave our heads spinning as we frantically hit the rewind button.

What Is Netflix’s “The Residence” About?

The upcoming Shondaland series is based on Kate Andersen Brower’s 2015 book “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.” The New York Times bestseller provides a behind-the-scenes look at the drama, humor, and heartbreak concealed within the walls of the White House between the Kennedy and Obama administrations. “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body,” the show’s logline reads. “One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. ‘The Residence’ is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”

Who’s in the Cast of “The Residence” on Netflix?

On Feb. 1, Netflix announced that Uzo Aduba will play the series lead, Cordelia Cupp, in “The Residence.” A few weeks later, on Feb. 27, the streaming platform announced 11 new cast members, first reported by Variety. The cast includes “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actor Andre Braugher as White House Chief Usher, “The Wire”‘s Edwina Findley as the White House butler, “Dr. Death”‘s Molly Griggs as Lilly Schumacher, and “Almost Famous”‘s Jason Lee as President Perry Morgan’s younger brother Tripp Morgan.
Given that Rhimes’s name is tied to some of the best thriller and drama series in recent years — including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder,” “Bridgerton,” and more — we plan to be couch-deep in a binge-watch marathon as soon as the series drops.
