Vietnam’s Historic Football Triumph
Following Vietnam’s exhilarating 3-2 win over Thailand in the ASEAN Cup 2024 final at Rajamangala Stadium, players from Hanoi FC, Duy Manh and Thanh Chung, rushed to congratulate Do Quang Hien, the long-time supporter of Vietnamese football and chairman of SHB Bank.
“We did it, Uncle!” Duy Manh shouted, lifting Hien in a joyous embrace. Other players, including Hai Long and Tuan Hai, also shared heartfelt moments, acknowledging Hien’s consistent support and investment since their formative years.
This touching scene was reminiscent of the emotional celebrations during the historic AFF Cup victory in 2018, highlighting Hien’s significant influence in Vietnam’s football journey.

Key Contributions to Vietnam’s Football
During the ASEAN Cup 2024, five players from Hien’s club, Hanoi FC, crucially contributed to the national team’s success. Hien has been pivotal in nurturing young talent by investing not just financially but also dedicating his time and vision towards their growth.
Under his guidance, Hanoi FC has produced notable players like Quang Hai, Hung Dung, and Duy Manh, all of whom were vital to Vietnam’s accomplishments, including the 2018 AFC U23 Championship and the 2018 AFF Cup.
Hien’s contributions go beyond financial support; during the ASEAN Cup final, he arranged a charter plane for 600 fans and announced a reward of VND 2 billion ($84,000) for the national team upon victory.
His involvement is deeply rooted in passion, as he actively mentors players and champions values like sportsmanship and teamwork at grassroots events.
According to a close associate, “He’s given more than money to football – he’s dedicated his time and focus.” For over twenty years, Hien has championed various football initiatives, motivating both players and supporters alike.

Building a Strong Football Foundation
Due to Hien’s consistent and thoughtful approach, Vietnam has developed a thriving football environment. His focus on nurturing young athletes has created a talented pipeline, including players like Hai Long and Tuan Hai, who are set to follow in the footsteps of current stars.
The grassroots strategy Hien advocates has become a blueprint for football in Vietnam, with aspirations for growth beyond local boundaries, aiming for success on a continental level.
As Vietnam’s football aspirations expand, the foundation laid by Hien positions the national team to achieve these goals with skill and unity.
