Expanded Transportation Options for Tet Holiday Travelers

More flights, trains launched to serve transport on Tet holiday

Vietnam Airlines Expands Services for Tet Holiday

Vietnam Airlines Group, which comprises Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO, is set to offer an additional 650,000 seats through over 3,000 flights on domestic routes from January 13 to February 12, 2025.

This will bring the total number of available seats across the Vietnam Airlines network to 2.15 million for this Tet holiday, representing around 11,000 flights.

The extra flights are primarily aimed at accommodating travelers heading home for family gatherings, especially on routes from Hanoi to HCM City, as well as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Vinh. The HCM City routes will include Da Nang, Hai Phong, Hue, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Pleiku, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, and Vinh.

To handle the increased demand during peak travel season, Vietnam Airlines Group plans to acquire four more airplanes, with each aircraft expected to facilitate around 180 flights this Tet.

In addition, Vietjet Air has also started selling tickets for flights scheduled between January 15 and February 12, 2025.

Ticket prices on specified routes such as HCM City to Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Nha Trang, and Da Lat range from VND890,000 (excluding taxes and fees) to VND1,790,000 for flights to cities like Hanoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong, with availability of tickets for return journeys starting from zero dong.

Airlines have reported that many Tet flights are already filling up, with occupancy rates soaring to 70-80 percent, particularly for routes between HCM City and both northern and central provinces. A surge in passenger numbers is expected in the coming months.

Travelers are encouraged to book their tickets early to take advantage of discounted fares, with recommendations to use websites, apps, or official booking agents for purchases.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) is actively monitoring ticket sales and airfares for domestic flights, guiding airlines to ramp up services on high-demand routes.

In parallel, the Vietnam Railways Corporation commenced ticket sales for trains during the Tet holiday starting October 6, available at railway stations, online, and via mobile platforms.

On the first day of ticket sales alone, 43,000 tickets were sold, generating revenue of VND77 billion. Enhanced booking and payment methods are allowing passengers to secure train tickets more efficiently.

The railway peak season runs from January 15 to February 16, with operations including 22 trains daily during Tet, featuring nine Thong Nhat trains on the Hanoi–HCM City route and 13 trains designated for shorter trips.

Price increases for train tickets during the 2025 Tet period are projected to be around 4-5 percent higher than the previous year’s rates.
