Tet Celebration by G4 Ambassadors

The ambassadors of Canada, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland, known as the G4 group, showcased a touching performance for Tet, singing “Năm qua đã làm gì” (What Did We Do Last Year?) by Bui Cong Nam.

Ambassadors Shawn Steil, Caroline Beresford, Hilde Solbakken, and Thomas Gass collaborated with the Green Wind Choir to sing the entire piece in Vietnamese, showcasing their impressive language skills.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the video captures the essence of Tet in Hanoi, featuring sights like Hoan Kiem Lake, blooming peach trees, kumquat plants, and vibrant, festive streets.

Emphasizing Cultural Unity

For several years, the G4 ambassadors have embraced Tet as a chance to convey meaningful messages to the Vietnamese community, highlighting themes of cultural unity and understanding.

This year, they aim for their musical tribute to foster a spirit of unity amidst diversity.

In past celebrations, the ambassadors have visited vulnerable communities in Vietnam, sharing Lunar New Year joy with street vendors, informal laborers, and women engaged in demanding jobs.

Their outreach has included stops at places like Maison Chance in Ho Chi Minh City, which assists people with disabilities, and Hope Box, a refuge in Hanoi for survivors of domestic abuse.

A Nostalgic Tet Anthem

Năm qua đã làm gì has become a cherished song among young Vietnamese during year-end festivities.

Made popular by Noo Phuoc Thinh, its upbeat and relatable lyrics celebrate the closing of one year and the hopeful arrival of the new one.

The G4 ambassadors’ interpretation has given this beloved Tet classic an additional heartfelt layer.
